Synopsis
Through the use of computer generated imagery, everyone's favorite doll Barbie takes to the stage to portray both Clara and the Sugarplum Fairy, the two central roles in the Nutcracker. The dances were choreographed by the director of the New York City Ballet. The orchestration is provided by the London Symphony Orchestra. Barbies.ws
Production
Released in 1987, "Barbie and the Rockers" employed standard 2-D cell animation. The film was directed by Bernard Deyries and Bill Dubay and written by Dubay, Martha Moran and Barbie creator Ruth Handler. The film was produced by Eric S. Rollman. Barbies.ws
The film was originally aired in syndication as a two-part TV "mini-series", in two 25 minute installment before being released on video as a "movie". Barbies.ws
Plot
Barbie's rock band has just completed a successful World Tour and decides to perform one last concert in Space, while orbiting the earth, to promote world peace. It was followed by the sequel, Barbie and the Senstations: Rockin' Back to Earth, in which Barbie and her band come back to Earth, but find themselves in 1959.
